Key Details
Read This Before You Apply
- You must be a tertiary student. This is the detail most news coverage left out. Several reports described this as open to any young Nigerian aged 16 to 25. The official application journey is narrower: you must be a currently enrolled tertiary student with a valid school identification. If you are 22 and not in school, you are not eligible.
- You cannot enter alone. A team of four is required. Sort your team out before you start the registration, because you will need their details.
- A Blaze account is a condition of entry, not a suggestion. Blaze is Ecobank's account for 16 to 25 year olds. Every applicant is expected to open one and keep it active. Budget time for that before the registration closes.
- No closing date has been published anywhere. The only date on the official site is the 30 October grand finale. That is the final event, not the application deadline. Because the programme still has to run screening, regional selection and bootcamps before then, applications will realistically close well before October. Do not wait.
- You do not need a finished product. The programme explicitly supports participants as they develop their idea, so an early concept with clear thinking is enough to enter. What you do need is a real problem and a specific track.
About This Opportunity
InnovateX is Ecobank Nigeria's youth innovation challenge, run through its Blaze youth banking brand and in partnership with Verve. The 2026 edition puts ₦20 million on the table and narrows its focus to two areas: Inclusive Finance and the Creative Economy.
The Inclusive Finance track covers credit for young people, fraud detection and prevention, financial inclusion, payment innovation, gaming and loyalty, and customer experience. The Creative Economy track is broader — education, entertainment and the creator economy, service hubs, social innovation, e-commerce, and transport and logistics. Pick the track that matches the problem you are solving, not the one that sounds more impressive.
The journey runs in six steps: form your four-person team, open a Blaze account, choose a track, register online, submit your idea, then go through screening. Shortlisted teams pitch at a regional activation or virtually, and the survivors go through to the grand finale on 30 October.
What makes this worth the effort beyond the cash is the structure around it — hybrid bootcamps, expert-led workshops, mentorship and a final pitch in front of industry leaders and investors. For a student team, that room is often worth more than the prize money.
Honest read on the odds: ₦20 million split five ways across a nationwide student competition is a smaller prize than the headline suggests, and fifth place is ₦1 million. But the entry cost is low, an unfinished idea is acceptable, and the mentorship and investor exposure continue after the competition ends.
