Key Details
Read This Before You Apply
- No cash prize has been published. What is on offer is access — investors in the room, continental visibility and a route to the Kigali stage. That is genuinely valuable for a startup raising money, but if you need funding this quarter, this is not that. Apply to a grant instead.
- Assume you pay your own way. Nothing published says travel, flights or accommodation to Kigali are covered. Budget for it before you build a plan around going, and ask the organisers directly.
- The official website sits behind bot protection. It refuses automated tools, so open africastartupcongress.org in a normal browser tab. If it will not load, email asc@africastartupcongress.org or use the phone numbers above — those are published by the organisers.
- Check the terms before you pitch. Pitch competitions vary enormously on what they take. Confirm there is no equity, fee or exclusivity attached before you present your business to a room of investors.
- This is about being seen, not being funded. Judge it as a marketing and fundraising exercise. If your raise is already in motion and you want warm investor exposure across ten African markets, the return can be real. If you are pre-product, your time is better spent building.
About This Opportunity
The Africa Startup Congress 2027 is a continental gathering of founders, investors and policymakers at the Kigali Convention Centre from 24 to 26 February 2027, with more than 2,000 delegates expected. The theme is "Empowering Innovators, Accelerating Job Creation Across Africa".
The route in for founders is the national pitch competitions and roadshows, running across ten countries from October to November 2026. Nigeria is one of them. Each national round selects the startups that will represent their country at the Continental Pitch during the Congress itself.
The initiative is supported by Accelerate Africa, Villgro Africa, Africa Fintech Foundry, Startup Hub and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Startups are assessed on innovation, scalability, traction and impact potential.
The reason gatherings like this matter is that they compress the distance between a founder and the people who can fund or unblock them. Capital, policy and founders end up in one room. For a Nigerian startup that is already raising, a warm introduction made in Kigali can be worth more than most competition cheques.
One honest caveat on our side. FundFinder verified the programme, the countries, the 30 September registration deadline and the Kigali dates against the organisers' own published material. What we could not independently open is a direct registration form, because the official site blocks automated access. Go through the site in your own browser, or contact the organisers directly using the details above.
